Rapid City and the Allen Americans both failed to score in overtime, but Rapid City won the game 3-2 (2-0 SO) after Damian Surma's deciding goal in the shootout. The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Rapid City's other shootout goal was scored by Surma.Rapid City overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Rapid City was down 2-0 after a goal by Allen's Brian McMillin at 11:46 in the first period. Rapid City tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Scott Wray at 10:30 in the second period. Rapid City's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Allen power plays. With 31 shots on target during the contest, Rapid City exceeded the 24.8 shots it averages per game this year. Rapid City was helped by Jarrett Konkle, who tallied one goal. Konkle scored 17:08 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Allen. Jesse Schultz assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Rapid City were Riley Weselowski, Jared Brown, and Jamie VanderVeeken, who contributed one a piece. The Americans' offense was clicking better than usual and put 29 shots on goal during the game, better than the 20.7 shots per game they average. Allen's defensemen bolstered the Americans' offensive attack, as they bombarded Danny Battochio with 12 shots. Allen was helped by Jamie Schaafsma, who registered one goal. Schaafsma scored 11:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Allen. Drew Daniels provided the assist. In addition, Allen received assists from Garrett Clarke, who had one and Alex Penner, who had two. Battochio rejected 27 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Americans' Aaron Dell stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Allen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
