Wray's goals lift Rapid City to 5-2 victory over Missouri

Rapid City relied on the scoring touch of Scott Wray, who netted two goals, to beat the Missouri Mavericks, 5-2.

Wray's tallies came at 5:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Rapid City and 16:44 into the first to make the score 2-0 Rapid City.

The Rapid City penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and three majors for 25 minutes in penalty time. Rapid City had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Rapid City bested its season scoring average. Rapid City averages 2.5 goals per game. Rapid City's offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.7 shots per game it averages.

Rapid City also got points from Jesse Schultz, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Rapid City also got a goal from Kyle Peto as well. More assists for Rapid City came via Damian Surma, who had two and Jared Brown, Jordan Behler, and Jamie VanderVeeken, who contributed one a piece.

Missouri was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and three majors for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Mavericks surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Missouri relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Sebastien Thinel, Andrew Courtney and Kyle Hood took 16 of the team's 31 shots.

Rapid City's Danny Battochio stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Rapid City registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Mavericks' starting goalie, Mike Clemente, made 34 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Trevor Batty, who stopped zero shots. Missouri registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
