Rapid City boosted by Boron's play in net, beats Wichita 3-1Rushmore Plaza Civic Arena Fri, Jan 11, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Tim Boron had a standout game with 35 saves, and Rapid City beat the Wichita Thunder 3-1. Rapid City was paced by Jordan Behler, who racked up one goal. Behler scored on the power play 11:22 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Rapid City. Rapid City had gained a power play chance when RG Flath was whistled for roughing. Jared Brown provided the assist. Rapid City forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Rapid City had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Rapid City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Damian Surma also scored for Rapid City. Other players who recorded assists for Rapid City were Jamie VanderVeeken, who had two and Winston Day Chief, Rusty Masters, and Jesse Schultz, who each chipped in one. Wichita did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Thunder put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. Wichita relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Gregor Hanson, Andrew Martens and Kevin Young took 19 of the team's 36 shots. More assists for Wichita came via Ryan Flanigan and Neil Trimm, who contributed one a piece. Rapid City registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Thunder's Kevin Regan stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Wichita ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
