Arizona outlasts Denver, 4-2Tims Toyota Center Fri, Jan 11, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Arizona Sundogs gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Denver Cutthroats. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Matt McCready at 7:42 of the third period. Arizona was sparked by McCready, who registered one goal and one assist. The Sundogs' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. By firing 34 shots on goal, Arizona exceeded the 23.5 shots it averages per game this year. Arizona also got points from Jason Morgan, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Matt Register also scored for Arizona. In addition, Arizona received assists from Ron Meyers and Johan Ryd, who contributed one a piece and Chad Langlais and Chad Nehring, who each chipped in two. Denver put 25 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.1 it averages per game. The Cutthroats were helped by Luke Fulghum, who racked up one goal. Fulghum scored 16:42 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Arizona. Mario Boilard provided the assist. Denver also got a goal from Troy Schwab as well. More assists for Denver came via Sean Zimmerman, Brad Smyth, and A.J. Gale, who contributed one a piece. The Sundogs' Adam Russo stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Arizona incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Kieran Millan rejected 30 shots on goal for Denver. The Cutthroats incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
