Wichita downs Missouri in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Intrust Bank Arena Fri, Dec 28, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Gregor Hanson gave the Wichita Thunder a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Missouri Mavericks when he scored 11 seconds into the extra period. Missouri could not complete its climb out of a two-goal hole. Wichita made it 3-1 on a power play goal by Kevin Young at 6:39 in the second period. The Mavericks got to within 3-2 on a goal by Sebastien Thinel at 1:36 in the third period. The Thunder relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Ian Lowe, Hanson and Todd Griffith took 14 of the team's 27 shots. Wichita additionally got points from Lowe, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Young, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Dustin Donaghy also scored for Wichita. More assists for Wichita came via Chad Painchaud, Les Reaney, and Aaron Boogaard, who contributed one a piece and RG Flath and Andrew Martens, who each chipped in two. Missouri relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Thinel, Dave Pszenyczny and Andrew Courtney took 13 of the team's 23 shots. Missouri also got points from Pszenyczny, who also registered one goal and three assists. Missouri also got a goal from Kenton Miller as well. In addition, Missouri received assists from Brandon Smith, who had one. Kevin Regan recorded 19 saves for Wichita. The Thunder incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
