The Missouri Mavericks and the Tulsa Oilers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Missouri made the most of its opportunities and won, 7-5.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Brandon Smith at 5:03 of the third period.

The Mavericks was paced on offense by Sebastien Thinel and Kenton Miller, who combined for seven points. Thinel had one goal and three assists and Miller also notched one goal and two assists.

Missouri's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Mavericks average 3.4 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. Tulsa was led by Mike Ullrich, who finished with two goals. Ullrich scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tulsa. The Oilers had gotten the advantage when the Mavericks' Dave Pszenyczny was sent off for slashing. Ryan Menei assisted on the tally. Ullrich's next tally on the power play made the score 6-5 Missouri with 1:32 left in the third period. Ben Gordon provided the assist. Tulsa additionally got points from Gordon, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Tulsa also got a goal from Troy Ofukany as well. Other players who recorded assists for Tulsa were Ryan Cramer, who had two and Kyle Mariani, Jeff Buvinow, Tyler Fleck, and Gary Steffes, who each chipped in one.

Mike Clemente recorded 20 saves for Missouri. The Mavericks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Tulsa's Mike Garman stopped 32 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Oilers incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Tulsa ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Michel Beausoleil was ejected from the game.
