Wichita vanquishes Rapid City in shootout, 2-1 (2-1 SO)

Kevin Young netted the deciding goal for the Wichita Thunder in the shootout as Thunder prevailed over Rapid City, 2-1 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Rapid City's shootout goal was scored by Damian Surma. Wichita's other shootout goal was scored by Todd Griffith.

The Thunder came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Wichita trailed 1-0 after a goal by Rapid City's Jeff Lee at 12:50 in the first period. The Thunder knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Griffith at 57 seconds in the second period.

Wichita's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Rapid City power plays. The Thunder put 43 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.9 they average per game.

Rapid City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

In addition, Rapid City received assists from Rusty Masters and Scott Brannon, who each chipped in one.

Kevin Regan made 23 saves for Wichita on 24 shots. The Thunder incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Tim Boron rejected 41 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
