The Denver Cutthroats and Rapid City both failed to score in overtime, but Denver won the game 4-3 (2-1 SO) after A.J. Gale's deciding goal in the shootout.

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Rapid City got a shootout goal from Damian Surma. In addition to the clincher, the Cutthroats got a shootout goal from Jamie MacQueen.

Denver saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Cutthroats made the score 3-1 on a power play goal by Brad Smyth at 8:14 in the third period. Rapid City evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Jarrett Konkle at 19:04 in the third period.

Denver racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 14.0 minutes per game the Cutthroats had been spending in the box. Denver got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The Cutthroats' offense was clicking better than usual and put 42 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.4 shots per game they average.

Denver was helped by Joel Chouinard, who racked up one goal. Chouinard scored 6:50 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Denver. Gabe Gauthier provided the assist. Gabriel Beaupre also scored for Denver. Other players who recorded assists for Denver were Ben Wilson, who had one and Brett Lutes, who had two.

Rapid City found itself short handed often, totaling 19 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

Rapid City additionally got points from Riley Weselowski, who also registered one goal and one assist. Rapid City also got a goal from Scott Wray as well. More assists for Rapid City came via Jeff Lee, Jared Brown, Surma, and John Snowden, who contributed one a piece.

Kent Patterson rejected 26 shots on goal for the Cutthroats. Neil Conway recorded 38 saves for Rapid City. Rapid City registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
