Missouri rides Corbiel to victory over Bloomington, 6-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Mathieu Corbiel helped the Missouri Mavericks defeat the Bloomington Blaze, 6-1.

Missouri was sparked by Evan Vossen, who finished with one goal and one assist. Vossen scored 8:24 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Missouri. Riley Emmerson assisted on the tally.

The Mavericks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Missouri averages 3.3 goals per game. The 41 shots that the Mavericks put on net surpassed Missouri's average of 22.9 shots per game this season.

Missouri additionally got points from Andrew Courtney, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and John-Scott Dickson, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Josh Turnbull also scored for Missouri. More assists for Missouri came via Brian Bicek, who had two and Brandon Smith, Matt McCready, Blake Forsyth, and Kenton Miller, who each chipped in one.

Bloomington excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Blaze's offense operated below they season average. Bloomington puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. The Blaze kept the Mavericks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Corbiel made 30 saves on 31 shots.

Bloomington was led by David Gilbert, who took three shots.

Missouri incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Blaze's starting goalie, Nick Niedert, made 15 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Gerry Festa, who stopped 20 shots. Bloomington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
