The Quad City Mallards tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Wichita Thunder held on for a 4-3 victory. Wichita took a 3-0 lead during the second period, only to have Quad City storm back on a Mike Stinziani goal 9:43 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Thunder were led by RG Flath, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Flath scored 10:37 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Wichita. Kevin Young provided the assist. Wichita excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Thunder put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29.5 they average per game. Wichita additionally got points from Ryan Flanigan, who also had one goal and one assist. Wichita also got a goal from Ian Lowe as well. More assists for Wichita came via Chad Painchaud, Andrew Martens, and Aaron Boogaard, who contributed one a piece. The Mallards were helped by Mickey Lang, who had one goal and one assist. Lang scored short handed 16:32 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wichita. Quad City played down a man on John Murray's tripping. Matt Duffy picked up the assist. Quad City also got points from Stinziani, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Brett Robinson also scored for Quad City. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Bob Preece and Matt Boyd, who each chipped in one. Kevin Regan rejected 26 shots on goal for Wichita. The Thunder incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Murray recorded 33 saves for the Mallards. Quad City incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
