Rapid City tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but the Arizona Sundogs held on for a 4-2 victory. Arizona made the score 4-1 on a goal by Jeff Kyrzakos at 15:14 in the second period, and Rapid City got as close as 4-2 when Jarrett Konkle scored 15:24 into the third period. Kyrzakos was all over the ice for the Sundogs, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Kyrzakos scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:42 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Arizona. Arizona had gained a power play chance when Riley Weselowski was whistled for interference. Kyle Schussler picked up the assist. Kyrzakos' next tally on the power play made the score Arizona with 4:46 left in the second period. The the Sundogs penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. Arizona had been averaging 14.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Sundogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Rapid City to score on any of its four power plays. Kyle Hood also scored for Arizona. More assists for Arizona came via Cody Purves, who had one and Pascal Morency, who had two. Rapid City's offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 30.3 shots per game it averages. Rapid City also got a goal from Jordan Behler as well. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Damian Surma, who had two and Kyle Peto and Tim Boron, who contributed one a piece. Arizona's Adam Russo stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Sundogs registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Tim Boron took the loss and made 13 saves before being replaced by Neil Conway who made seven saves. Rapid City ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Rapid City ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Penner was ejected from the game.
