Missouri uses shootout to best Arizona, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

John-Scott Dickson scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Missouri Mavericks picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (1-0 SO) win over the Arizona Sundogs.

The shootout lasted for 12 attempts between the teams.

Missouri overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Mavericks fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Arizona's Chad Nehring at 3:25 in the second period. Missouri tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jeff Kyrzakos at 19:47 in the third period.

The Mavericks were led by Kenton Miller, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Miller scored 5:14 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Arizona. Kellen Tochkin picked up the assist.

Missouri kept the Sundogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Adam Russo made 35 saves on 39 shots.

Trevor Kell also scored for Missouri. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were David Simoes, Sebastien Thinel, and Colt King, who contributed one a piece.

By firing 37 shots on goal, Arizona exceeded the 31.0 shots it averages per game this year.

More assists for Arizona came via Mario Larocque, who had one and Kyle Chipchura and Cody Purves, who contributed two a piece.

Mike Clemente made 34 saves for the Mavericks on 37 shots. Missouri totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. The Sundogs totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
