The Bloomington Blaze, which found themselves down a man often, weathered Rapid City's power play opportunities and emerged with a 5-2 victory.

Bloomington pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 29 penalty minutes.

The Blaze stifled Rapid City's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Rapid City was unable to stop Bloomington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blaze eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Bloomington was helped by Nicklas Lindberg, who racked up two goals. Lindberg scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bloomington. The Blaze had gained a power play chance when Jordan Behler was whistled for elbowing. Nicolas Rioux assisted on the tally. Lindberg's next tally on the power play made the score 4-0 Bloomington with 1:26 left in the second period. Jon Booras provided the assist. Bloomington also had goals scored by Ryan Palmer, who had one and Travis Granbois, who had two. In addition, Bloomington received assists from Jared Walker, Kyle Bochek, and Sebastien Trudeau, who each chipped in one.

Rapid City was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Rapid City had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Rapid City's offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 31.5 shots per game it averages.

Rapid City was led by John Snowden, who dished out two assists.

Pier-Olivier Pelletier made 33 saves for Bloomington on 35 shots. The Blaze registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For Bloomington, Tysen Dowzak was ejected from the game. Rapid City's Neil Conway stopped 38 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Rapid City registered zero goals on six power play opportunities.
