Rapid City holds on for 5-4 win against Bloomington

Rapid City survived a determined comeback attempt by the Bloomington Blaze on the way to a 5-4 win.

Rapid City took a 5-2 lead during the second period, only to have Bloomington storm back on a Tysen Dowzak goal 18:17 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Rapid City got the win with help from a great game by Jordan Baker, who had two goals and two assists. Baker scored the first of his two goals at 8:05 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Rapid City. Damian Surma provided the assist. Baker's next tally made the score 3-0 Rapid City with 10:01 left in the first period. Rapid City had gained a power play chance when Jon Booras was whistled for slashing. Surma picked up the assist.

Rapid City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Rapid City additionally got points from Surma, who also registered one goal and three assists. Rapid City also got a goal from Kyle Peto as well. More assists for Rapid City came via John Snowden, who had two and Riley Weselowski, Winston Day Chief, and Mitch Stephens, who each chipped in one.

The Blaze was not heavily penalized during the game, and finished with six minors and one major totalling 17 minutes. Bloomington stayed under its season average of 28.0 penalties minutes per game this season. The Blaze kept Rapid City's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tim Boron made 32 saves on 36 shots. Bloomington's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Bloomington also got points from Dowzak, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Sebastien Trudeau also scored for Bloomington. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington were David Gilbert, who had one and Nicklas Lindberg and Matthew Larke, who each chipped in two.

Rapid City totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Pier-Olivier Pelletier recorded 23 saves for the Blaze.
