Ayr completes comeback, beats Burford, 3-2

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Ayr Centennials battled back to claim a 3-2 victory over the Burford Bulldogs.

Ayr never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Centennials was down 2-0 after a short handed goal by Burford's JJ Haroland at 13:50 in the first period. Ayr tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Mike McKnight at 17:04 in the third period. The Centennials got the game winner on the power play at 18:19 in the third period on a goal by McKnight.

McKnight had two goals to lead Ayr to victory.

The Centennials stifled the Bulldogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Ayr was held below its usual level of production. The Centennials put an average of 5.4 pucks into the net per game. Ayr's offense rang up 38 shots on Burford's net. The defensemen of the Centennials were also effective in the Bulldogs' zone, and came away with two goals.

Declan Kaster also scored for Ayr. More assists for Ayr came via Adam Fisher, Andrew Richard, Alex Richard, and Alex Mutton, who contributed one a piece.

Burford's offense operated below it season average. The Bulldogs average 4.8 goals per game. Burford's penalty kill managed to stymie Ayr's power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down. The Bulldogs were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 38 penalty minutes.

Burford was helped by Jim Salatas, who had one goal. Salatas scored 3:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burford. Guy Polillo provided the assist. In addition, Burford received assists from Tyler Vandenbussche and Adam Harris, who each chipped in one.

The Centennials' Mitch Figueirdo stopped 18 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Ayr incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Don Davis rejected 35 shots on goal for the Bulldogs. Burford registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
