Richard's goals lift Ayr to 5-2 victory over Wellesley

Alex Richard was all over the ice for the Ayr Centennials, as he tallied two goals in Ayr's 5-2 win over the Wellesley Applejacks.

Richard scored at 49 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr and again while 8:40 into the second to make the score 4-2 Ayr.

The Centennials' penalty kill excelled, as Ayr gave up one goal despite allowing 10 power plays.

The Centennials forced Wellesley goalie Josh Heer to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Ayr's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Centennials finished with 44 penalty minutes.

Ayr additionally got points from Connor McLeod, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Ayr also got a goal from Ben Poort as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Adam Fisher, Spencer Sweazy, and Alex Mutton, who each chipped in one and Andrew Richard, Declan Kaster, and Nick Hirs, who contributed two a piece.

The Applejacks were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Wellesley surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Applejacks' offense operated below they season average. Wellesley averages 4.4 goals per game.

The Applejacks were helped by Devon Wagner, who finished with one goal. Wagner scored 15:28 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Ayr. Corey Way also scored for Wellesley. More assists for Wellesley came via Derek Lebold and Patrick Wiejak, who each chipped in one.

Mitch Figueirdo recorded 22 saves for Ayr. The Centennials registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Zack Taylor and Brady Wheelans were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Wellesley's Heer stopped 32 shots out of the 37 that he faced. For the Applejacks, Lebold and Michael Pollice were ejected from the contest.
