Burford falls to Ayr in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Ayr Centennials pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Burford Bulldogs on a clutch goal by Mike McKnight.

Ayr overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Centennials fell behind 5-3 after a goal by Burford's Eric Lucente at 7:54 in the third period. Ayr tied things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Alex Mutton at 15:01 in the third period.

Brandon Christopher had a great game for the Centennials, netting two goals. Christopher scored on the power play at 14:34 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 8:27 into the third to make the score 5-4 Burford.

Ayr put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Bulldogs to score on any of their four power plays.

Ayr also got points from Alex Richard, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ayr also got a goal from Jimmy Roy as well. In addition, Ayr received assists from Jordan Eby and Zack Taylor, who contributed one a piece and Ben Poort and Brett Gibson, who each chipped in two.

Burford forced the Centennials goalie Bobby Brown to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

The Bulldogs were helped by Michael Thomlison, who tallied one goal. Thomlison scored 9:21 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Burford. Jesse Brooks provided the assist. Burford additionally got points from Brooks, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. JJ Haroland also scored for Burford.

Brown recorded 38 saves for Ayr. The Centennials incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Burford's Don Davis stopped 20 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Bulldogs incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
