Wallaceburg squeaks by Blenheim, 5-3

The Wallaceburg Lakers gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Blenheim Blades.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Justin Whitson secured the win for Wallaceburg with a goal in the third period.

Sam Jasmin was all over the ice for the Lakers, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Jasmin scored the first of his two goals at 10:12 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wallaceburg. Bobby Domin assisted on the tally. Jasmin's next tally made the score 5-3 Wallaceburg with 25 seconds left in the third period. Joe Daly provided the assist.

Wallaceburg's penalty kill excelled, as the Lakers gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Wallaceburg stifled Blenheim's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Lakers kept the Blades' goalie busy throughout the game, and Justin Pratt made 27 saves on 32 shots.

Wallaceburg also got points from Brennan Rainey, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Whitson, who also tallied two goals and one assist. More assists for Wallaceburg came via Scott Lubbers, who had two.

Blenheim forced Wallaceburg goalie Joel Sowinski to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

The Blades were helped by Aaron Pastorius, who finished with one goal. Pastorius scored 8:32 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wallaceburg. John McKillop picked up the assist. Taylor Phillips also scored for Blenheim. Other players who recorded assists for Blenheim were Cam Aitken, who had two and Jarrod Oliphant and Matt Speed, who each chipped in one.

The Lakers' Sowinski stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Wallaceburg incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Blenheim incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
