Alvinston uses shootout to best Kingsville, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Alvinston Flyers defeated the Kingsville Comets in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams.

Alvinston overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Flyers fell behind 3-2 after a goal by Kingsville's Steven Spada at 6:37 in the second period. Alvinston tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Josh Moore at 15:37 in the third period.

The Flyers forced Comets' netminders to work between the pipes, ripping 49 shots and forcing 45 saves. Marcus Rees made 39 stops and Lane Parent made six. Alvinston put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Comets to score on any of their three power plays.

Chad Vaneyk also scored for Alvinston. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Tyler Kettler and Jake McPhail, who contributed one a piece and Cody Perriam and Karsten Berg, who each chipped in two.

Kingsville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The defensemen of the Comets were also effective in the Flyers' zone, and came away with two goals.

Kingsville also got a goal from Frank Desjardin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kingsville were Devin Shannon and Robert Jardine, who contributed one a piece.

James Morreau made 25 saves for Alvinston on 28 shots. The Flyers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Kingsville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
