Belle River rides Cowell to victory over Dresden, 2-1

Brandon Cowell stood on his head and made 27 saves to lead the Belle River Canadiens to a 2-1 victory over the Dresden Kings.

Belle River was paced by James Shelton, who registered one goal. Shelton scored 10:20 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Belle River. Richard Dunning assisted on the tally.

The Canadiens excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Belle River did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Canadiens put an average of 4.6 pucks into the net per game. Belle River forced Dresden goalie Brent Paxton to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Belle River additionally got points from Josh Synnott, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Belle River came via Jason Clarke, who had one.

The Kings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Canadiens to score on any of their five power plays.

Dresden was led by Jesse Allen, who scored the team's only goal. Allen scored 5:10 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Dresden. Dylan Mertz picked up the assist.

Belle River ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For the Canadiens, Jordan Taylor was ejected from the game. Paxton rejected 29 shots on goal for the Kings. Dresden ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mitchell Burton was ejected from the game.
