Blenheim vanquishes Kingsville in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Blenheim Blades defeated the Kingsville Comets in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout. Kingsville got a shootout goal from Justin Parker. Blenheim's other shootout goal was scored by Zach Mailloux.

The Blades overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Blenheim was down 2-1 after a power play goal by the Comets' Frank Desjardin at 5:08 in the second period. The Blades tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Tyler Clarke at 13:21 in the third period.

Blenheim struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 38 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

The Blades were helped by Zack Horvath, who finished with one goal and one assist. Horvath scored on the power play 1:23 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A roughing penalty on Steven Spada had put Blenheim on the power play. Clarke picked up the assist. Blenheim also got points from Clarke, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Taylor Phillips and Justin Rossignol, who contributed one a piece.

Kingsville was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 26 penalty minutes.

Kingsville additionally got points from Kyle Morand, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Kingsville were Connor Rennie, Tyler Kirby, and Adam Minovski, who each chipped in one.

The Blades' Justin Pratt stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Blenheim registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Marcus Rees made 26 saves for the Comets on 28 shots.
