Belle River rips Mooretown, 5-2

The Mooretown Flags had trouble finding ways to stop the Belle River Canadiens, which beat Flags, 5-2.

Belle River pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Canadiens were led by Chris DiNatale, who racked up one goal and one assist. DiNatale scored on the power play 16:31 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Belle River. Belle River had gained a power play chance when Jordan McBeath was whistled for high sticking. Mark Manchurek assisted on the tally.

The Canadiens' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Mooretown power plays. Belle River's offense rang up 35 shots on Mooretown's net.

Belle River also got points from Derek Haskell, who also registered one goal and one assist. Branden Larocque also scored for Belle River. In addition, Belle River received assists from Matthew Couloufis, Jordan Taylor, Donnovan Plummer, and Richard Dunning, who contributed one a piece.

The Flags kept the Canadiens' goalie busy throughout the game, and Zakk Olvin made 42 saves on 44 shots.

Mooretown was helped by Riley Roberts, who tallied two goals. Roberts scored the first of his two goals at 5:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Belle River. Jeff Schroeter provided the assist. Roberts' next tally made the score 5-2 Belle River with 6:22 left in the third period. Schroeter picked up the assist. More assists for Mooretown came via Travis Mullen and Andrew Sokol, who each chipped in one.

Belle River registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Brandon Johnson recorded 30 saves for the Flags. Mooretown incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
