Alvinston shrugs off penalties, upends North Middlesex, 6-3

The Alvinston Flyers' penalty kill was superb, as Alvinston survived multiple penalties to beat the North Middlesex Stars, 6-3.

The Flyers were sparked by DJ Sapone, who finished with one goal. Sapone scored 15:26 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Alvinston. Troy Whitely picked up the assist.

North Middlesex was unable to stop Alvinston from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 51 shots on goal. Alvinston bested its season scoring average. The Flyers average 3.8 goals per game. Team could not crack the Stars' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 12 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Alvinston also got points from Tyler Kettler, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Joe Archer, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Dylan Lightfoot, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Cody Perriam also scored for Alvinston. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Kyle Cutler, who had two and Davis Triest and Karsten Berg, who contributed one a piece.

North Middlesex's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Stars finished with 40 penalty minutes.

North Middlesex was helped by Zak MacNaught, who had one goal. MacNaught scored on the power play 19:35 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Alvinston. The Stars had taken the advantage when Alvinston's Lightfoot got sent off for tripping. Greg Masschelein provided the assist. North Middlesex additionally got points from Mike Sharpe, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. North Middlesex also got a goal from Ben Lawton as well. Other players who recorded assists for North Middlesex were Tommy Prokes and Cody Wuytenburg, who each chipped in one.

The Flyers' James Morreau stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Alvinston ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major. Team's Dawson Elviage and Perriam were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Ryan Swartzentruber recorded 45 saves for North Middlesex. The Stars registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For North Middlesex, Alex Davis and Jordan Drury were ejected from the contest.
