Mooretown holds on for 6-4 win against Alvinston

The Alvinston Flyers tried their best to erase a five-goal deficit, but the Mooretown Flags would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-4.

A goal by Caden Fleming put Mooretown up 6-1 in the third period, but Alvinston pulled to within two on Matt Carroll's tally 13:37 into the third period.

Mike Burns had one goal and two assists to lead the Flags. Burns scored 6:23 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mooretown. Dan Lumley assisted on the tally.

Mooretown made Flyers' goalies to work between the pipes, getting 38 shots and forcing 32 saves. Brad Jacklin made 23 stops and James Morreau made nine. The Flags bested their season scoring average. Mooretown averages 3.6 goals per game.

Mooretown also got points from Jeff Schroeter, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Lumley, who also had one goal and one assist. Mooretown also got a goal from Jeff Sit as well. More assists for Mooretown came via Alec Rutherford, Jordan Orth, and Matt Brandon, who contributed one a piece and McGregor Haddon and Andrew Sokol, who each chipped in two.

The Flyers managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Alvinston ended up below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. The Flyers forced the Flags goalie Brandon Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Alvinston was helped by Connor MacKinnon, who tallied one goal and one assist. MacKinnon scored 17:57 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Mooretown. Cody Perriam provided the assist. Alvinston additionally got points from Tyler Kettler, who also registered two goals and one assist. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Joe Archer, who had two and Karsten Berg and Chad Vaneyk, who contributed one a piece.

Brandon Johnson made 30 saves for Mooretown on 34 shots. The Flags incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors and had no power play opportunities. The Flyers registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
