Essex rips Wallaceburg, 6-1

The Essex 73s had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over the Wallaceburg Lakers.

Essex pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes.

The 73s were led by Phil Janikowski, who had one goal. Janikowski scored 10:00 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Essex. Aaron Thibert provided the assist.

Essex's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Wallaceburg power plays. The 73s forced Wallaceburg goalie Devine Cove to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Others who scored for Essex included Alex Garon, who had three and Jordan Ryan and Matthew Hebert, who scored one goal each. More assists for Essex came via Corey Beaulieu, who had three and Marco Canzoneri, Kevin Boggs, Tyler Raymont, Jordan Brohman, Adam Dunmore, Scott Bromley, and Daniel McIntyre, who each chipped in one.

The Lakers' offense operated below they season average. Wallaceburg averages 3.4 goals per game.

Essex's Arren Romeril stopped 17 shots out of the 18 that he faced. The 73s registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Cove rejected 33 shots on goal for the Lakers. Wallaceburg incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
