Essex blows out Blenheim, 6-1Blenheim Memorial Arena Sun, Oct 14, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Essex 73s were firing on all cylinders against the Blenheim Blades, and when the final buzzer sounded 73s emerged with a 6-1 win. Blenheim fell victim to a deadly Essex power play, which ripped the Blades for five goals. The 73s were paced by Aaron Thibert, who racked up one goal. Thibert scored on the power play 10:53 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Essex. A slashing penalty on Owen Bateman had put Essex on the power play. Daniel McIntyre assisted on the tally. The 73s' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Blenheim power plays. Essex forced Blenheim goalie Dylan Vanderpol to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots. The defensemen of the 73s were also effective in the Blades' zone, and came away with two goals. Essex also got points from Colin DeLaet, who also had one goal and one assist. Essex also got a goal from Kevin Boggs as well. In addition, Essex received assists from Corey Beaulieu, Alex Garon, Jordan Ryan, and Colin Moore, who contributed one a piece and Blaise Baillargeon and Zack Miletic, who each chipped in two. Blenheim's offense operated below it season average. The Blades average 3.1 goals per game. Blenheim's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Blades average 2.5 goals allowed per game. Blenheim's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Blades finished with 33 penalty minutes. Arren Romeril recorded 14 saves for Essex. The 73s incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Blenheim's Vanderpol stopped 45 shots out of the 51 that he faced. The Blades ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bowe Shepley was ejected from the game.
