Mooretown hangs on, beats Dresden 3-2

Dan Lumley scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Mooretown Flags held off the challenges of the Dresden Kings in a tough 3-2 win.

Mooretown took over the lead for good with a goal by Lumley at 13:37 in the first period. Matt Brandon provided the assist.

Dresden's power play was ineffective against the Flags' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Mooretown was led by Riley Roberts, who registered one goal and one assist. Roberts scored 7:40 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mooretown. Andrew Sokol assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:46 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Flags were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Mooretown surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. The Flags' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Dresden power plays. Mooretown forced the Kings goalie Kaylobe Derynck to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Mooretown also got a goal from Caden Fleming as well. More assists for Mooretown came via Jeff Sit and Travis Mullen, who each chipped in one.

Dresden excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Kings' offense rang up 43 shots on the Flags' net.

Dresden was led by Brennan Rainey, who had one goal and one assist. Rainey scored 5:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dresden. Alex Ritchie picked up the assist. Taylor Sisson also scored for Dresden. In addition, Dresden received assists from Macks Holmes, who had one.

Brandon Johnson recorded 41 saves for Mooretown. For the Flags, Calab Harse was ejected from the game. Kaylobe Derynck made 34 saves for the Kings on 37 shots. Dresden ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For the Kings, Jeremy Griffore and Jesse Allen were ejected from the contest.
