Blenheim survives Kingsville comeback, wins 5-4

The Kingsville Comets tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Blenheim Blades held on for a 5-4 victory.

Blenheim took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Kingsville storm back on a Mark Sobocan goal 16:09 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Jake ONeil was all over the ice for the Blades, as he registered two goals in the win. ONeil's tallies came on the power play at 14:10 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and on the power play 15:22 into the first to make the score 2-1 Blenheim.

Blenheim excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Blades' offense rang up 35 shots on the Comets' net. The defensemen of Blenheim were also effective in Kingsville's zone, and came away with two goals.

Blenheim also got points from Tyler Clarke, who also had two goals and one assist and Cam Aitken, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Blenheim came via Bowe Shepley, who had two and Kirk McKillop and Trevor Sparks, who contributed one a piece.

The Comets got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Kingsville additionally got points from Tyler Kirby, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Kyle Morand also scored for Kingsville. Other players who recorded assists for Kingsville were Robert Jardine, who had two and Ryan Jones, Kyle Perryman, and Daniel Beaudion, who each chipped in one.

Justin Pratt made 23 saves for the Blades on 27 shots. Blenheim totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. For the Blades, Aidan Wiebenga was ejected from the game. Kingsville's Nathan Crankshaw stopped 30 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Comets ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. Team's Morand and Steven Spada were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
