Dresden pulls away in second, rolls over Wallaceburg, 8-2

The Dresden Kings used a five-goal second period to put away the Wallaceburg Lakers, 8-2.

Jesse Allen was all over the ice for Dresden, as he tallied one goal and three assists in the win. Allen scored 18:16 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Dresden. Josh Beatty assisted on the tally.

The Kings forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 13 minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 27.0 minutes per game Dresden had been spending in the box. The Kings made Wallaceburg's netminders to work between the pipes, launching 37 shots and forcing 29 saves. Joel Sowinski made 17 stops and Devine Cove made 12. Dresden found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Kings have scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Dresden additionally got points from Jeff Vanrabaeys, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Dylan Mertz, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Taylor Sisson also scored for Dresden. More assists for Dresden came via Brennan Rainey, who had two and Jeremy Griffore and Derek VanEvery, who contributed one a piece.

The Lakers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Dresden to score on any of its six power plays.

Wallaceburg was helped by Jeff Nolfo, who had one goal. Nolfo scored on the power play 3:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wallaceburg. The Lakers had gained a power play chance when Macks Holmes was whistled for hooking. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Sam Jasmin as well. In addition, Wallaceburg received assists from Lucais Meyskens and Brett Storr, who each chipped in one.

Brent Paxton recorded 21 saves for the Kings. Team's Kyle Havens and Mitchell Burton were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Wallaceburg totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-14 on the power play. For the Lakers, Mike Brown was ejected from the game.
