GAME RECAP

Wallaceburg vanquishes Alvinston in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Wallaceburg Memorial Arena    Wed, Oct 10, 2012

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wallaceburg Lakers defeated the Alvinston Flyers in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. Alvinston's shootout goal was scored by Tyler Kettler. In addition to the clincher, Wallaceburg got a shootout goal from Lucais Meyskens.

The Lakers got the win with help from a great game by Jeff Nolfo, who had two goals and one assist. Nolfo scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wallaceburg. A high sticking penalty on Cody Perriam had put Wallaceburg on the power play. Justin Whitson assisted on the tally. Nolfo's next tally on the power play made the score 3-0 Wallaceburg with six seconds left in the first period. The Lakers had gotten the advantage when the Flyers' Dawson Elviage was sent off for cross checking.

Alvinston's power play was ineffective against Wallaceburg's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Flyers were unable to stop the Lakers from sending pucks towards the net, and Wallaceburg eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Lakers capitalized on Alvinston's penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage.

Meyskens also scored for Wallaceburg. In addition, Wallaceburg received assists from Bobby Domin, Sam Jasmin, and Chris Taylor, who contributed one a piece.

The Flyers forced Wallaceburg goalie Joel Sowinski to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

Alvinston was led by Joe Archer, who grabbed three goals. Alvinston also got a goal from Kettler as well. Other players who recorded assists for Alvinston were Clint Rose, who had two and Dylan Lightfoot, Karsten Berg, and Jake McPhail, who each chipped in one.
