Wallaceburg erases deficit to stun Mooretown, 6-5

The Mooretown Flags could not hold down the Wallaceburg Lakers, and Lakers erased a three-goal deficit en route to a 6-5 win.

Wallaceburg never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Lakers trailed 3-0 after a goal by Mooretown's Travis Mullen at 18:32 in the first period. Wallaceburg tied things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Jake Carter at 16:45 in the second period. The Lakers scored the game winner at 7:03 in the third period on a goal by Carter.

Wallaceburg made the Flags' goaltenders to work all game long, launching 62 shots and forcing 56 saves. Braden Palocz made 25 stops and Brandon Johnson made 31.

The Lakers were led by Jeff Nolfo, who grabbed three goals. Wallaceburg additionally got points from Sam Jasmin, who also had one goal and one assist, Carter, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Chris Taylor, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Lucais Meyskens, who had three and Barry Braun and Justin Whitson, who each chipped in two.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Mooretown was helped by Mike Burns, who grabbed two goals. Burns scored the first of his two goals at 15:38 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Mooretown. Caden Fleming assisted on the tally. Burns' next tally made the score 6-5 Wallaceburg with 48 seconds left in the third period. Matt Brandon provided the assist. Mooretown also got points from Brandon, who also registered one goal and one assist and Andrew Sokol, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Mooretown came via Jordan Orth and Riley Roberts, who contributed two a piece.

Devine Cove made 25 saves for Wallaceburg on 30 shots. The Lakers totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. For Wallaceburg, Jeff Morey and Clay Wilhelm were ejected from the contest. The Flags totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. Mooretown ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sokol was ejected from the game.
