Dresden shrugs off penalties, upends Kingsville, 6-3

The Kingsville Comets failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Dresden Kings shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-3.

Dresden was led by Derek Daly, who registered one goal. Daly scored on the power play 4:19 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Dresden. The Kings earned a power play opportunity when Zach Ross was put in the box for cross checking. Macks Holmes picked up the assist.

Dresden kept Kingsville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kyle Andrian made 27 saves on 33 shots. The Kings excelled on the penalty kill, only allowing the Comets to get one power play goal on 11 chances. Dresden found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Kings average 3.1 goals per contest.

Dresden also got points from Dylan Mertz, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Jesse Allen, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Brennan Rainey, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Dresden also got a goal from Kyle Havens as well. Other players who recorded assists for Dresden were John Montgomery and Cody McPhail, who contributed one a piece and Taylor Sisson and Josh Beatty, who each chipped in two.

Dresden was unable to stop Kingsville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Comets eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Kingsville was helped by Ryan Desjarlais, who racked up one goal. Desjarlais scored on the power play 48 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kingsville. The Comets had gotten the advantage when the Kings' Alex Ritchie was sent off for hooking. Justin Parker provided the assist. Steven Spada also scored for Kingsville. More assists for Kingsville came via Brett Benson, Robert Jardine, Frank Desjardin, Daniel Beaudion, and Dean Shepley, who contributed one a piece.

Dresden's Brent Paxton stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Kings incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Kingsville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
