Huge game by Woelk boosts Wheatley over Mooretown, 7-4

Behind a great game by Jon Woelk, who had one goal and two assists, the Wheatley Sharks defeated the Mooretown Flags, 7-4.

Woelk beat Brandon Johnson with a shot 6:01 into the second period on the power play to make the score 2-0 Wheatley. Wheatley had taken the advantage when Mooretown's Jeff Schroeter got sent off for spearing. Corbin Haggerman assisted on the tally. Woelk dished an assist on Kurtis Ouellette's goal that made the score 1-0 Wheatley at 2:46 into the second period. He added another helper on Mike Reid's goal that made the score 7-4 Wheatley at 18:59 into the third period.

The Flags fell victim to a deadly the Sharks power play, which ripped Mooretown for five goals.

Wheatley forced the Flags goalie Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals.

Wheatley additionally got points from Ouellette, who also had one goal and one assist, Kevin Sawatzky, who also registered one goal and one assist, Haggerman, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Lucas Raffoul, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Wheatley also got a goal from Brett Bowman as well. More assists for Wheatley came via Brendon Anger, who had two and Zach Wilson and Dan Matoski, who contributed one a piece.

Mooretown was helped by Dan Lumley, who had one goal and one assist. Lumley scored on the power play 8:37 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wheatley. The Flags earned a power play opportunity when Stephen Croley was put in the box for slashing. David Addley provided the assist. Mooretown also got points from Riley Roberts, who also registered one goal and one assist and Andrew Sokol, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Jordan McBeath also scored for Mooretown. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Ryan Jennings, McGregor Haddon, and Matt Brandon, who each chipped in one.

Marc Tremblay rejected 22 shots on goal for the Sharks. Wheatley incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Sharks, Dylan Impens was ejected from the game. Mooretown's Johnson stopped 29 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Flags totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play.
