Dresden uses shootout to best Wallaceburg, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Dresden Kings defeated the Wallaceburg Lakers in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Wallaceburg's shootout goal was scored by Jeff Nolfo. Dresden's other shootout goal was scored by Jesse Allen.

The Kings overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Dresden was down 2-0 after a goal by the Lakers' Kyle Jacobson at 14:11 in the first period. The Kings tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Taylor Sisson at 18:17 in the first period.

Dresden's penalty kill excelled, as the Kings gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Dresden stifled Wallaceburg's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Lakers were unable to stop the Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Dresden eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. The Kings could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

Dresden was helped by Macks Holmes, who had one goal. Holmes scored 15:39 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wallaceburg. Dylan Mertz picked up the assist. In addition, Dresden received assists from Cody McPhail, Alex Schmidt, and Derek Daly, who contributed one a piece.

Wallaceburg stifled the Kings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Lakers' offense rang up 45 shots on Dresden's net. Wallaceburg found itself short handed often, totaling 48 penalty minutes and allowing 11 power plays.

The Lakers were helped by Barry Braun, who racked up one goal. Braun scored 3:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wallaceburg. Joe Allison assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Scott Lubbers, Mike Myers, and Justin Whitson, who each chipped in one.

Brent Paxton recorded 43 saves for the Kings. Devine Cove made 40 saves for Wallaceburg on 42 shots.
