Uxbridge hangs on, beats Lakefield 2-0

Shane Smith scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Uxbridge Bruins held off the challenges of the Lakefield Chiefs in a tough 2-0 win.

A goal 4:38 into the the first period by Smith proved to be the game winner, and powered Uxbridge to the victory Patrick Morgan assisted on the tally.

The Bruins' penalty kill excelled, as Uxbridge gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Bruins were led by Smith, who had one goal.

Uxbridge stifled Lakefield's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bruins could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Uxbridge puts an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. The Bruins' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Chiefs. Uxbridge gives up 2.4 goals on average per game. The Bruins were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 34 penalty minutes.

Uxbridge also got points from Morgan, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Uxbridge were Callum Lynch and Justin Bean, who each chipped in one.

Lakefield did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Chiefs average 4.7 goals per game. Lakefield could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Uxbridge registered one goal on eight power play opportunities.
