Meyers' hat trick boosts Port Perry over Clarington, 6-1

The Clarington Eagles could not stop the Port Perry Mojacks' Brodie Meyers, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-1 win.

Meyers got on the scoresheet 14:14 into the second period. He then added goals at 2:37 into the third and at 16:36 into the third.

Clarington was stymied by Port Perry netminder Drew Siydock, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. Siydock managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.81 prior to the game.

The Mojacks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Clarington power plays. Port Perry forced the Eagles goalie Nick Keleher to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The defensemen of the Mojacks were also effective in Clarington's zone, and came away with four goals.

Port Perry also had goals scored by Lucas Berkers, who had one and Logan Evans, who had two. In addition, Port Perry received assists from Matt Johnston, who had two, Matt Murray, who had four, and Anders Neilsen, Kyler Challis, and Brody Anderson, who each chipped in one.

The Eagles' offense operated below they season average. Clarington averages 3.1 goals per game. Penalties took their toll on the Eagles, as their penalty kill unit let in three power play goals.

Clarington was led by Craig Crowther, who scored the team's only goal. Crowther scored 5:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Clarington. Brent Hambly provided the assist.

Port Perry incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. For the Mojacks, Matt Paul was ejected from the game. The Eagles' Keleher stopped 25 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Clarington ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. The Eagles ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brad Down was ejected from the game.
