Lakefield shrugs off penalties, upends Little Britain, 7-3Lakefield-Smith CC Tue, Oct 02, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Little Britain Merchants failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Lakefield Chiefs shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-3. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 3:48 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Lakefield racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. The Chiefs surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. Lakefield kept Little Britain's goalie busy throughout the game, and Neil Pittock made 24 saves on 31 shots. The Chiefs' penalty kill managed to stymie the Merchants' power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down. Lakefield found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Chiefs have scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Lakefield was helped by Derek Manley, who had one goal. Manley scored 8:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield. Ryan Saunders assisted on the tally. Lakefield also got points from Mike Parkinson, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Saunders, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Lakefield included Jordan Walsh, who had two and Eric Shewell and Connor Blair, who scored one goal each. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Tyler Roy, who had two, Curtis Bolton, who had three, and Taylor Reece, Stephen Woodbeck, Nathan Larson, and Travis Brault, who contributed one a piece. Little Britain was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game the Merchants had been spending in the box. Little Britain was helped by Zach Boice, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Boice scored on the power play 7:02 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Lakefield. The Merchants had gained a power play chance when Larson was whistled for high sticking. Kurtis Moore provided the assist. Little Britain also got a goal from Mitch Phinney as well. Zach Wainman recorded 17 saves for the Chiefs. Lakefield registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Chiefs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Keenan Runnalis was ejected from the game. For Little Britain, Greg ONeil and T.J. Doran were ejected from the contest.
