Gervais nets hat trick, leads Welland to 5-2 win over Stoney Creek

Josh Gervais netted a hat trick to lead the Welland Jr. Canadians over the Stoney Creek Warriors, 5-2.

Gervais notched his first tally 12:09 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:09 into the third and at 7:47 into the third.

Welland stifled Stoney Creek's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Canadians' offense rang up 35 shots on the Warriors' net.

Welland also got points from Adam Mataya, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Welland also got a goal from Brooker Muir as well. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Matt Gillard, Chris Brown, Matthew Mateljan, Drake Lynds, and Braden Curry, who each chipped in one and Riley Brooks and CJ Stellato, who contributed two a piece.

Stoney Creek was helped by Wesley St. Amand, who racked up one goal. St. Amand scored 6:08 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Marco Mattina provided the assist. Matt Schewer also scored for Stoney Creek. More assists for Stoney Creek came via Alexander Zaccaria and Mitch Reid, who each chipped in one.

Chris McDougall made 23 saves for Welland on 25 shots. The Jr. Canadians incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Warriors' Blake Richard stopped 30 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Stoney Creek incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
