Sarnia outlasts Strathroy, 5-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Sarnia Legionnaires escaped with a 5-4 victory over the Strathroy Rockets.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Davis Boyer secured the win for Sarnia with a goal in the third period.

The Legionnaires were led by Boyer, who had one goal. Boyer scored 10:52 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Sarnia. Nathan Mater provided the assist.

Sarnia managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Legionnaires ended up below its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game.

Sarnia additionally got points from Josh Kestner, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Derek D`Andrea, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Jeff Paulley also scored for Sarnia. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Jason Teschke, who had two and Jeff King and Brent Sauve, who each chipped in one.

Strathroy's offense rang up 31 shots on Sarnia's net.

The Rockets were led by Wes Baker, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Baker scored 9:53 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Strathroy. Tony Belony assisted on the tally. Strathroy also got points from Trevor Dulong, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Strathroy also got a goal from Tyler Duarte as well. More assists for Strathroy came via Kurtis Sander, Chase Thornton, Nick Boyer, and Dylan Wilson-Foote, who contributed one a piece.

Sean Parker rejected 27 shots on goal for the Legionnaires. Sarnia registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Dalen Kuchmey made 23 saves for Strathroy on 28 shots. The Rockets incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
