Chatham sunk by penalties, falls to Sarnia 7-4Sarnia Arena Thu, Feb 14, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
A rash of penalties cost the Chatham Maroons the game, as the Sarnia Legionnaires netted four goals with a man advantage in a 7-4 win. In the losing effort, Chatham was paced by Brennan Feasey, who had two goals and one assist. Feasey scored the first of his two goals at 18:09 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Sarnia. Feasey's next tally made the score 6-5 Sarnia with 58 seconds left in the third period. Eric Palazzolo assisted on the tally. Sarnia was led by Davis Boyer, who racked up one goal and one assist. Boyer scored 19:13 into the third period to make the score 7-5 Sarnia. The Legionnaires made Maroons' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 47 shots and forcing 40 saves. Darien Ekblad made 34 stops and Scott Tricker made six. Sarnia bested its season scoring average. The Legionnaires average 3.9 goals per game. Sarnia also got points from Derek D`Andrea, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Sarnia also got a goal from Hunter Tyczynski as well. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Matt Cimetta, who had two, Chad Beauchamp and Corey Giffel, who contributed one a piece, and Josh Kestner and Jason Teschke, who each chipped in three. The Maroons racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Chatham had been spending in the box. Sarnia was unable to stop the Maroons from sending pucks towards the net, and Chatham eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. The Maroons had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances. Chatham additionally got points from Palazzolo, who also registered one goal and one assist. Steven Beenackers also scored for Chatham. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Steven Szekesy, who had two and Connor Doran and Michael Verboom, who contributed one a piece. Sean Parker rejected 34 shots on goal for the Legionnaires. Sarnia incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Chatham ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alexander Morgan was ejected from the game.
