Port Colborne downs Thorold, 6-3

The Port Colborne Pirates took home the win against the Thorold Blackhawks, 6-3.

Port Colborne put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Thorold to score on any of its four power plays.

The Pirates were helped by Bryan Komasara, who tallied two goals. Komasara scored the first of his two goals at 18:37 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Port Colborne. Pat Murphy picked up the assist. Komasara's next tally made the score 5-2 Port Colborne with 8:50 left in the third period. Dayne Phillips provided the assist. Port Colborne additionally got points from Phillips, who also registered one goal and one assist, Charlie Izaguirre, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Dima Lavrenov, who also had one goal and one assist. Pol Gonzalez also scored for Port Colborne. More assists for Port Colborne came via Blaine Bechard and Zack Deconilys, who contributed one a piece.

The Blackhawks were helped by Owen Sobchak, who registered one goal and one assist. Sobchak scored 4:48 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Port Colborne. Joel Forestell picked up the assist. Thorold also got points from Forestell, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Mackenzie Mac Avoy, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Kevin Lavoie and Matthew Hoszko, who each chipped in one.

Morgan Hudson made 22 saves for Port Colborne on 25 shots. The Pirates incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For Port Colborne, Jordan Warren was ejected from the game. Vinny Merante recorded 21 saves for Thorold. The Blackhawks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
