Early goals doom Cambridge, falls to Listowel, 9-4

The Listowel Cyclones jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Cambridge Winter Hawks, 9-4.

Listowel got the win with help from a great game by Jacob Robitaille, who had four goals and two assists. Robitaille's first goal came 4:02 into the first period. He then added goals at 7:36 into the first, at 13:55 into the second, and at 16:11 into the second.

Cambridge was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Cyclones were able to score four times while on the power play.

Listowel forced Winter Hawks' goalies to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots and forcing 34 saves. Lucas Machalski made 30 stops and Jordan Lee made four. The Cyclones surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Listowel averages 4.0 goals per game. The Cyclones found themselves short handed often, totaling 50 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Listowel also got points from Mac Nichol, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Caleb Cameron, who also registered two goals and four assists. Listowel also got a goal from Sam Feagan as well. In addition, Listowel received assists from Patrick Bell, who had four, Sam Harris and Derek Dallman, who each chipped in one, and Chris Gillman and Scott Pawson, who contributed two a piece.

The Winter Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 70 minutes in penalties during the game.

Cambridge was led by Chris Taylor, who tallied one goal and one assist. Taylor scored 7:26 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Listowel. Kyle Locke provided the assist. Others who scored for Cambridge included Cody Gratton, who had one and Todd Bannermon, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Mitch Facey, Andrew Coupland, Trevor Hache, and Alex Bottigoni, who each chipped in one.

Drew Reinhardt rejected 26 shots on goal for Listowel. The Cyclones ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jesse Parker was ejected from the game. Team's Dylan Decker and Tyler Snyder were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
