Cambridge beats Listowel 2-0 as Machalski gains shutout

Lucas Machalski made 27 saves to complete the shutout and led the Cambridge Winter Hawks to a 2-0 win against the Listowel Cyclones.

Cambridge was paced by Alex Bottigoni, who registered one goal. Bottigoni scored 14:22 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. Brennon Pearce assisted on the tally.

The Winter Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Listowel to score on any of its four power plays. Cambridge's defense was surprisingly good. The Winter Hawks average 2.7 goals allowed per game. Cambridge kept the Cyclones' goalie busy throughout the game, and Drew Reinhardt made 39 saves on 41 shots.

Cambridge also got points from Cody Gratton, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Tyler Snyder and Andrew Coupland, who each chipped in one.

Listowel did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Cyclones put an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game.

The Winter Hawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Listowel incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
