Mooney, Iacocca dominate LaSalle, lead St. Thomas to 6-3 win

Behind two goals and one assist from Colin Mooney and one goal and two assists from Mike Iacocca, the St. Thomas Stars downed the LaSalle Vipers 6-3.

Mooney scored the first of his two goals at 6:44 into the third period to make the score 4-3 St. Thomas. Drew Collinson assisted on the tally. Mooney's next tally made the score 6-3 St. Thomas with 35 seconds left in the third period. Iacocca scored 15:45 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Martin Kudla picked up the assist.

St. Thomas' penalty kill excelled, as the Stars gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

St. Thomas stifled LaSalle's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Stars outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, St. Thomas averages 3.9 goals per contest. The Stars' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as St. Thomas finished with 30 penalty minutes.

St. Thomas also got points from Iacocca, who also had one goal and two assists. Scott Mitchell also scored for St. Thomas. More assists for St. Thomas came via Dean Pawlaczky and Braden Hellems, who each chipped in one.

The Vipers forced the Stars goalie Donald Edwards to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

LaSalle was led by Scott Prier, who finished with two goals. Prier scored the first of his two goals at 2:03 into the second period to make the score 1-0 LaSalle. Korey Morgan provided the assist. Prier's next tally made the score 3-3 with 2:16 left in the second period. LaSalle also got a goal from Graeme Brown as well. In addition, LaSalle received assists from Blake Jones and Dylan Denomme, who contributed one a piece.

Donald Edwards made 28 saves for St. Thomas on 31 shots. The Stars registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Taylor Speed recorded 14 saves for the Vipers. LaSalle incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
