Locke leads Cambridge over Guelph, 9-2

Behind a great game by Kyle Locke, who had one goal and two assists, the Cambridge Winter Hawks defeated the Guelph Hurricanes, 9-2.

Locke scored 8:50 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Cambridge. Cameron Pentsa picked up the assist. Locke dished an assist on Lawrence Pagnan's goal that made the score 5-2 Cambridge at 11:32 into the second period. He added another helper on Mitch Facey's goal that made the score 9-2 Cambridge at 12:02 into the third period.

Guelph was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Cambridge was able to score four times while on the power play.

The Winter Hawks made the Hurricanes' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 51 shots and forcing 42 saves. Jason DaSilva made 31 stops and Quinton Henry made 11. Cambridge excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Winter Hawks outdid their season average for goals scored. Cambridge averages 3.8 goals per game.

Cambridge also got points from Mitch Klie, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Pentsa, who also had one goal and two assists, Pagnan, who also registered one goal and one assist, Chris Taylor, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Todd Bannermon, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Maxime Lamontagne also scored for Cambridge. More assists for Cambridge came via Dylan Decker, Hudson Michaelis, Christian Barnard, and Tyler Snyder, who each chipped in one.

Guelph could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Hurricanes were helped by Michael Courvoisier, who racked up one goal. Courvoisier scored 17:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Guelph. Sebastian Stangherlin provided the assist. Guelph additionally got points from Zach McFadden, who also tallied one goal and one assist.

The Winter Hawks' Lucas Machalski stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Cambridge incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Guelph, Patrick Kudla was ejected from the game.
