Stoney Creek vanquishes St. Catharines in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Stoney Creek Warriors defeated the St. Catharines Falcons in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. St. Catharines got a shootout goal from Jordan Bailey. Stoney Creek's other shootout goal was scored by Zach Niemanen.

The Warriors came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Stoney Creek fell behind 2-1 after a goal by the Falcons' Luke Karaim at 11:59 in the third period. The Warriors knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Ryan Lewis at 15:20 in the third period.

Stoney Creek was helped by Wesley St. Amand, who grabbed one goal. St. Amand scored 16:36 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Stoney Creek. Harry Polyoka provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Stoney Creek were Niemanen, Cordell James, and Blake Luscombe, who each chipped in one.

St. Catharines stifled the Warriors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Falcons did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. St. Catharines averages 5.9 goals per game. The Falcons' offense rang up 46 shots on Stoney Creek's net.

Kyle Woodhouse also scored for St. Catharines. More assists for St. Catharines came via Yanni Rallis, Aaron Taylor, Dan MacEachern, and Jesse Miller, who contributed one a piece.

Alexander Brooks-Potts made 44 saves for the Warriors on 46 shots. Stoney Creek incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For the Warriors, Neil Aird was ejected from the game. Jonathon D Ilario recorded 18 saves for St. Catharines. The Falcons incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
