Sarnia falls to St. Thomas in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The St. Thomas Stars' Reid Oliver scored 3:02 into overtime to beat the Sarnia Legionnaires, 6-5 (OT).

St. Thomas overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Stars was down 5-2 after a goal by Sarnia's cody slaght at 15:38 in the second period. St. Thomas tied things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Oliver at 8:13 in the third period.

The Stars got the win with help from a great game by Oliver, who had two goals and one assist.

St. Thomas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Legionnaires to score on any of their four power plays. Sarnia was unable to stop the Stars from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Thomas eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Stars' goal total was higher than their season average. St. Thomas averages 3.8 goals per game.

St. Thomas also got points from Trevor Abbott, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Drew Collinson, who also had one goal and four assists to lead the team in points. St. Thomas also got a goal from Scott Mitchell as well. More assists for St. Thomas came via Kevin Zacharuk, Martin Kudla, and Matt Tsioros, who contributed one a piece.

Sarnia additionally got points from Jason Teschke, who also registered one goal and one assist. Josh Kestner also scored for Sarnia. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Nathan Mater, who had two and Matt Cimetta, Jeff King, Bobby King, and PJ Vandervaart, who each chipped in one.

Donald Edwards made 23 saves for the Stars on 28 shots. St. Thomas incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Sean Parker rejected 31 shots on goal for the Legionnaires. Sarnia incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
