Lavrenov's big game bests Buffalo in 15-3 Port Colborne win

Behind a great game by Dima Lavrenov, who had two goals and three assists, the Port Colborne Pirates defeated the Buffalo Jr. Blades, 15-3.

Lavrenov scored at 7:49 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Port Colborne and again while 16:36 into the first to make the score 4-1 Port Colborne.

Port Colborne made Buffalo's goalies to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots and forcing 31 saves. Ian Shorthouse made 24 stops and Brandon Klein made seven. The Pirates outdid their season average for goals scored. Port Colborne has scored at the pace of 4.8 goals per game during the current campaign. The Pirates capitalized on the Jr. Blades' penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage. The defensemen of Port Colborne were also effective in Buffalo's zone, and came away with five goals.

Port Colborne also got points from Blaine Bechard, who also had three goals and two assists, DYLAN BURDICK, who also registered one goal and two assists, Nathan Judd Warren, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Dayne Phillips, who also racked up one goal and four assists, Trevor Smith, who also had one goal and two assists, and Bryan Komasara, who also registered three goals and two assists. Port Colborne also got a goal from Michael Sharp as well. More assists for Port Colborne came via Nick Dagostino, who had one, Joe Dagostino, who had two, Pol Gonzalez, who had three, and Zack Deconilys and Charlie Izaguirre, who each chipped in four.

The Jr. Blades were helped by Tom Hanna, who registered one goal and two assists. Hanna scored 5:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Tyler Kessler provided the assist. Buffalo additionally got points from Kessler, who also tallied two goals and one assist. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Josh Gordon, who had three.

Morgan Hudson made 25 saves for the Pirates on 28 shots. Port Colborne ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Pirates, Komasara was ejected from the game. Buffalo totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Jr. Blades ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Pat Dullen APJ was ejected from the game.
