Port Colborne survives penalties, beats Stoney Creek, 3-1

The Stoney Creek Warriors failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Port Colborne Pirates shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-1.

Port Colborne was paced by Charlie Izaguirre, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Izaguirre scored 17:10 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Port Colborne. Dayne Phillips provided the assist.

Port Colborne also got points from Zack Deconilys, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Dima Lavrenov also scored for Port Colborne. More assists for Port Colborne came via Nick Berst and Trevor Smith, who contributed one a piece.

Stoney Creek put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Pirates to score on any of their three power plays.

The Warriors were led by Alexander Zaccaria, who scored the team's only goal. Zaccaria scored on the power play 18:46 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Stoney Creek had gotten the advantage when Port Colborne's Lavrenov was sent off for checking from behind. Cordell James assisted on the tally.

Real Cormier rejected 18 shots on goal for the Pirates. Port Colborne incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Pirates ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Lavrenov was ejected from the game. The Warriors' Alexander Brooks-Potts stopped 16 shots out of the 18 that he faced. Stoney Creek incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
