St. Thomas outlasts London, 4-2

The game between the St. Thomas Stars and the London Nationals was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end St. Thomas emerged with a 4-2 win.

The Stars gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matt Tsioros 16:40 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

St. Thomas' penalty kill excelled, as the Stars gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

St. Thomas was sparked by Tsioros, who racked up one goal.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:23 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

London was unable to stop the Stars from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Thomas eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

St. Thomas also got points from Scott Mitchell, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Mike Iacocca also scored for St. Thomas. More assists for St. Thomas came via Michael Lucifora, who had one, Braden Hellems, who had two, and Drew Collinson, who had three.

The Nationals forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 61 minutes in penalty time. London surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Nationals were helped by Aaron Dartch, who grabbed one goal. Dartch scored on the power play 3:58 into the second period to make the score 1-0 London. London earned a power play opportunity when Ian MacDonald was put in the box for tripping. Sean Consitt assisted on the tally. London also got a goal from Blake Thomas as well. In addition, London received assists from Tyler Bryden, who had one.

Donald Edwards recorded 21 saves for the Stars. St. Thomas totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. For the Stars, Colin Mooney and Chris Maton were ejected from the contest. The Nationals' Nick Dampier stopped 34 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Team's Ryan Wells, Matt Fuller, and Connor Allison were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
